Ukraine plans to strengthen cooperation with the Korean corporation KT (the largest provider of integrated telecommunications services in South Korea) in the implementation of smart networks (Smart Grid - technologies). This was discussed during a meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the Korean corporation.
“The Ministry of Energy is interested in the modernization of the electric power industry of Ukraine on the basis of the most modern technologies. Now we are completing the development of the Concept for the implementation of smart grid technologies in Ukraine, ”said Deputy Energy Minister Yuriy Boyko.
The Ministry of Energy said that the Ukrainian energy system needs modernization and investment in the development of electrical infrastructure. Since January 1, 2021, Ukraine has introduced incentive tariff setting for distribution system operators, and this mechanism provides opportunities for the modernization of the electricity infrastructure.
“Ukraine is very interested in the experience and cooperation with Korea, which is the world leader in the development and implementation of modern technologies in the electric power industry, in particular, smart grid technologies. I am sure that our cooperation will have a mutually beneficial effect and will find its continuation in further cooperation between Ukraine and South Korea in the field of electric power, ”Yuriy Boyko noted.
The parties also see digitalization in the energy sector as one of the promising areas of cooperation.
“Digitalization is one of the development priorities of the state. We will be happy to expand our cooperation in the implementation of Smart Grid technology, and other digital transformation projects in the energy sector of Ukraine, ”said Yevhen Vladimirov, Deputy Minister of Energy for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization.
In the near future, the Ministry of Energy will present to the representatives of the KT corporation projects in the field of energy digitalization for further potential cooperation.
In addition, the Ministry is developing a draft Ukrainian-Korean Joint Statement of Intent on expanding cooperation in the energy sector, the signing of which will increase the level of our intergovernmental cooperation.
As a reminder, on October 30, 2020, a Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of smart metering of electricity was signed between the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the Korean corporation KT.
