MMK has smelted its 700 millionth ton of pig iron since the first blast furnace was launched in 1932.

MMK's blast furnace shop, with a capacity of 10.3 million tons per year, consists of eight furnaces and remains one of the largest blast furnace plants in the country, the stability of all other refineries of the plant depends on its stable operation.

Despite this huge figure - 700 million tons - the blast furnace shop is young, modern and demonstrates the highest level of production, said Pavel Shilyaev, General Director of MMK PJSC.

"We are located in the foundry yard, where there are two furnaces that were built back in 1932, and which have been completely modernized at the present time. Today, these furnaces are the most efficient at MMK. This also applies to the second blast furnace, which has achieved impressive results in just one year in terms of such an important indicator as reducing coke consumption for cast iron. This became possible thanks to the coordinated work of the entire team of the aglocoxodomain production and the scientific and technical center."

The production of cast iron at the second blast furnace is deeply symbolic. It was launched on June 7, 1932, four months after the launch of the first blast furnace. The blast furnace was named "Komsomolka" in commemoration of the labor feat of the Komsomol members who worked on the construction of Magnitogorsk. The same age as the combine and a symbol of industrialization, the second blast furnace has undergone several major reconstructions in its long history and now effectively helps solve the problems facing the modern generation of blast furnace workers.

The last reconstruction of blast furnace No. 2 was carried out in 2020. Investments amounted to over 5 billion rubles. Due to this, the unit's productivity increased by more than 30%. The cooling system was upgraded, and the foundries were reconstructed with the organization of a closed gutter system and aspiration of the foundries and charge feed, which improved the working conditions of blast furnace workers and significantly increased the environmental friendliness of blast furnace production.

The first cast iron at MMK was received on February 1, 1932, and since then this date has been the birthday of the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works.
