the Dutch Government on Friday said it will sue Russia in the European court of human rights in connection with the fall of a passenger of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over Eastern Ukraine six years ago.
the Netherlands, where approximately two-thirds of the 298 victims, consider Russia responsible for the disaster on 17 July 2014. The Kremlin has consistently denied any involvement in the case.
"the Idea is a new step in our efforts to establish truth, justice and responsibility", - said the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Stef Blok in a letter to Parliament.
Block said that his government will provide the court all the information about MH17, thereby supporting the individual statements already filed by the relatives of the victims.
MH17 was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it was downed by a missile fired from territory held by Pro-Moscow rebels during fighting in Eastern Ukraine, killing all on Board.
After several years gathering evidence, last year the Dutch-led international joint investigation team (JIT) stated that the missile launcher used to defeat the jet plane came from the base of the Russian army across the border.
JIT Subsequently issued warrants for the arrest of four suspects who were tried in absentia in the Netherlands in the beginning of this year.
it is said that four suspects, three Russian citizens and one citizen of Ukraine, organized a missile system. They remain at large and are thought to be in Russia.
Despite the court case, the Dutch government has said it wants to continue negotiations with Russia on MH17, which began with Australia over a year ago.
