For the company, this is an additional margin of safety, especially at the height of the heating season and frost, when electricity consumption increases sharply, and thermal generation carries an additional load.

DTEK bought four more Panamaxes with Colombian coal

Rinat Akhmetov's energy holding DTEK has agreed on additional supplies of Colombian coal in the amount of 4 Panamax-class vessels.

The campaign expects new shipments from the US to arrive in Ukraine during February-March.

Thus, today the total number of deliveries by the company by sea has been increased to 13 ships, and the volume of imported coal - up to 858 thousand tons. Coal from additional Panamaks will replenish the warehouses of Ukrainian thermal power plants.

To date, DTEK has brought 9 shiploads of imported coal to Ukraine. The first ship contracted by the company for the needs of the state-owned TPP "Centrenergo" arrived in Ukraine on November 20 last year. The rest are intended for the needs of DTEK Energy TPPs. This made it possible to increase the coal reserves at the company's TPPs to 548,000 tons.

During September-December 2021, DTEK imported 880 thousand tons of coal. To date, the volume of imported fuel already contracted by the company has significantly exceeded 1.3 million tons.

Last year, DTEK Energy's own production at the mines amounted to almost 17 million tons of coal. According to preliminary data, over the same period, 14.5 million tons of fuel were burned at the company's thermal power plants, of which 84% was coal of its own production.
