Specialists of PJSC "Energomashspetsstal" (EMSS, Kramatorsk, Donetsk region) made a backup roll with a weight of 207 tons, unique in its dimensions. The length of the finished product was almost 11 meters, the barrel diameter was 2.25 meters, and the barrel length was 4.9 meters. To date, the roll has successfully passed acceptance and is being prepared for shipment to the customer.
This backup roll was made from 415 ton steel ingot. For casting the billet, a medium-alloy roll steel grade was used, developed at PJSC "Energomashspetsstal", which provides high performance of the backup roll.
Currently, another roll of the same type is in the production of PJSC "EMSS". The delivery of finished products to the customer is scheduled for April 2021. Solid forged backup rolls are designed for operation in the 5000 hot plate mill ordered by R&MS Solutionpartner Gmbh (Luxembourg).
As a reminder, the contract for the supply of two backup rolls of 207 tons each was signed following the results of the tender, which took place in 2019. The competitors of PJSC "Energomashspetsstal" in the tender were manufacturers of similar rolls from Germany and Japan.
Energomashspetsstal already has experience in the production of such equipment. In 2013, EMSS specialists successfully carried out a project to manufacture a one-piece forged backup roll with a weight of 225 tons for a plate mill "5000" from a unique ingot weighing 415 tons. Successful implementation of the giant roll production project allowed EMSS to become one of the five largest plants in the world capable of producing such products.
