Last year, in the midst of coronavirus restrictions and a decline in production, 6 out of 15 steel-making electric furnaces operated in Ukraine.

As of November 10, 2021, of the main metallurgical facilities in Ukraine, 18 of 21 blast furnaces, 7 of 8 open-hearth furnaces, 12 of 16 converters, 5 of 15 electric furnaces and 16 of 17 continuous casting machines are in operation. This was reported by the Ukrmetallurgprom association.

Electricity consumption by metallurgical enterprises for 10 months of 2021 amounted to about 9.50 billion kWh, which is 4.4% higher compared to January-October 2020. At the same time, natural gas consumption increased by 2.9% compared to the same period last year - up to 1.59 billion cubic meters.

In January-October 2021, Ukrainian ferrous metallurgy enterprises procured 3 million 215 thousand tons of scrap metal, which is 35.4% more than in the same period last year.

According to the updated data of the OP "Ukrmetallurgprom", in January-October 2021, metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine produced:

  • agglomerate - 27.88 million tons (106.1% versus January-October 2020);
  • bulk coke (6% wet) - 8.00 million tons (100.0%);
  • pig iron - 17.72 million tons (105.0%);
  • steel - 17.90 million tons (105.5%);
  • rolled products - 15.99 million tons (105.4%);
  • pipe products - 0.82 million tons (115.9%).
