According to Jato Dynamics, electric cars and hybrids have become more popular than diesels in Europe for the first time.

Every fourth new car registered in the European Union in September 2020 was an electric car or a hybrid. The market for diesel vehicles fell to a record low: heavy fuel vehicles accounted for only 24.8% of total sales.

Just ten years ago, diesel cars in Europe occupied 50% of the market, while the share of electric cars and hybrids was below 1%.

The market for new cars in 27 European countries in September grew by only 1.2%: almost 1.3 million copies were registered. Demand for electric cars increased by 156% compared to the same month last year. For the first time, hybrid cars surpassed 300,000 units in one month - their popularity grew by 124%.

Among hybrids, Toyota leads with the Corolla model, while Tesla with the Model 3 sedan remains the leader in demand for electric vehicles.
