Guarantees of the origin of "green" energy in Ukraine will help reduce the impact of the introduction of a border tax on carbon (CBAM) in the European Union. This opinion was expressed by representatives of the companies-members of the Energy Club during the discussion held by the State Energy Efficiency of Ukraine on the introduction of guarantees of the origin of energy.
Given the prospect of introducing a border carbon taxation mechanism in the EU, it is guarantees of the origin of energy that can help companies minimize the carbon footprint of their products and become competitive in the EU market.
“The fact that these guarantees of origin will help optimize environmental taxation is a very important incentive for business,” said Michel Forget, CEO of IKNET, in his speech.
The discussion participants also noted that for the full implementation of the mechanism, it is necessary to stimulate not only external, but also internal demand for guarantees of the origin of energy. It is necessary to conduct a strong information policy and create a culture of decarbonization.
