According to the World Steel Association Worldsteel, Ukraine ranked ninth in 2020 in the ranking of global iron producers with a result of 20.42 million tons or 101.8% compared to January-December 2019.
In just 12 months of 2020, metallurgical enterprises of the countries of the world smelted 1 billion 385.94 million tons of pig iron, of which 1 billion 299.35 million tons by the blast furnace method and 86.59 million tons by the direct reduction method. This is 0.93% less than the same period in 2019.
The decline in global pig iron production was primarily caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first place in the world belongs to the People's Republic of China, whose metallurgists smelted 887.52 million tons of pig iron in 2020, which is 4.26% more than in 2019.
Previously it was reported that at the end of 2020, Ukraine ranks 11th among 62 steel-producing countries with 20.62 million tons or 98.9% compared to January-December 2019.
